Wood Grain Painting
with Hendrika Ono
1. Find a piece of plywood with interesting grain patterns.

2. Sand lightly and treat the surface with linseed oil, or a different
barrier oil. Use oil paint for radiant colour and creaminess

3. Plan out a colour scheme that is pleasing to you.
Consider that analagous colours are restful;
complimentary colours bring a lot of energy.

4. Border all the grain with white.
5. Allow to dry completely and use
a sealant to protect your finished work.

6. The Oil Paint
-
Usually thinned with mineral spirits or linseed oil
-
“Fat over lean” – if you are going to glaze with undiluted stand oil , you need to do it LAST …all your mineral spirits should be done first
-
Takes up to 6months to dry ( depending on thickness)
-
Mix colours with palate knife ( not your brush..:)
-
Mix up your colours ahead of time , not in the moment
